Around Tulum

Tulum is definitely one of the most enchanting places on earth!  The town of Tulum is small and home to a vibrant community.  We highly recommend a day of exploring the town and walking the Avenida Tulum, to spend some time with Tulum’s residents and do a little shopping!  It’s a quick 8 minute car ride from the beach.

The cenotes of the Yucatán are a must-see , a vast network of underground rivers feed these amazing, crystal-clear pools of water underneath the rock of the Yucatán.  Accessible by openings in the earth, these cenotes are considered places of spiritual significance by the Mayan population.  Vast caves are in some cenotes, with huge stalactites and stalagmites.  Chichen-Itzá is a great day trip, and the monkey reserve takes you to another world.

Here, you’ll always see iguanas of all shapes and sizes, butterflies, and soaring birds… along the beach, if it’s the season, you can see giant sea turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs! Travel a little further and see spider monkeys, pelicans, dolphins, and much more.
Sian-Ka’an is a huge biosphere, a protected reserve that stretches far along the coast and inland. You can spend the whole day in Sian Ka’an and it will seem like an hour, just because there’s so much to see! There are migratory birds that come to roost on islands in the middle of the lagoons; you can always see dolphins and turtles swimming around; snorkel more of the reef there too! You can have lunch in Punta Allen, a tiny fishing village at the very south end of the Mayan coast, and have the freshest lobster, fish and crab you may have ever tasted.

Morph Kiteboarding is located at the same location as Hotel Playa Azul Tulum.

Playa Azul is a group of cabanas in the jungle and on the white Caribbean sand.  Located on one of the most wonderful beaches in Tulum, it is just minutes away from the natural reserve of Sian-Ka’an, the archaeological site of Tulum and faces the the second longest coral barrier reef in the world. Surrounded by palm trees and white sand dunes, you will find 16 comfortable rooms and cabanas, all of them with open terraces, hammocks, and private bathrooms. This combination makes Playa Azul Tulum the perfect place for those who are seeking to spend quality time away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and who want to get close to the natural and cultural wonders of Tulum and the Riviera Maya.

Coco Tulum Cabanas

*From 40 usd Off season Promo Code : Morph Guest

Coco Tulum Hotel takes you back to the Tulum of back in the day, when Tulum was about the basics – a palapa on the beach, a hammock, and basic necessities, without taxing the ecology of the Tulum beach.  At Coco Tulum Hotel, you are truly off the grid.  Wake up in the morning and take a few steps to jump in the warm blue-and-green Caribbean; relax in the sun; maybe do a little bodysurfing.  Relax at night to the sound of the ocean in a comfortable bed… and let time stop.

Coco Tulum Hotel cabañas were conceived as a place to unwind.  You can use this place as a base to explore the Yucatán – to visit some cenotes, climb some ruins, kayak in the lagoons, and return to enjoy the unique design of the hotel. Coco Tulum Hotel is dedicated to ecological sustainability, and our 24-hour electricity is provided by wind and solar power.

The Cabañas

There is no better deal for a Tulum beach hotel than Coco Tulum!  We have simple, rustic beach cabañas starting at $40 usd per night.  Each beach cabaña has a comfortable bed and basic amenities, including concrete floors.  Each beach cabaña faces a gorgeous stretch of beach.  The 8 BEACH ZONE cabañas are closest to the ocean, and the 6 GARDEN ZONE cabañas are just behind the beach zone.  All of our cabañas are very close to each other, and all are on the sand.

Coco Tulum is a place to get off the grid and enjoy some peace and quiet.  This is the quintessential Caribbean beach vacation.  This is your time to relax!

Please note that all of our guests staying in the cabañas at Coco Tulum share a huge public bathroom, cleaned three times a day.  Ladies and gents each have 4 showers and 4 toilets, as well as a changing room.  The bathrooms allow for privacy, and there is hot, fresh water.

The Tulum Beach tower at Coco Tulum

The Tulum Beach Tower is a Rapunzel-like structure with the best view on Tulum’s beautiful beach. The third floor has a 360 degree view of Tulum’s almost endless beach and the Yucatan jungle as far as the eye can see, and a view of the sea out to the horizon. Each round floor of the Tulum Beach Tower is its own room, with a closet area and bathroom. Staying in the Tower is a romantic, unique experience – like taking up residence in your own version of a fairy tale. You can also rent the entire tower for up to six of your family and/or friends! Check our packages page for special deals for you and your traveling companions.

How to get there

Tulum pueblo is located along route 307 on the Riviera Maya, between Playa del Carmen to the north and Chetumal to the south. If you rent a car from the Cancun airport, go south along Route 307 all the way to Tulum. At the intersection with San Francisco de Asis grocery store on your right, turn left and follow the road east toward the beach. It will veer to the right, and keep following the beach road for about four more kilometers. Playa Azul will be on the left, just after Puerta del Cielo.

Cancun (CUN) is the closest airport to Playa Azul. We can help you arrange private transportation by van or private car – please let us know if you’ll need assistance at least one week prior to your arrival.
